If you are a nurse who loves exploring different places, and can’t decide on one city to call home, travel nursing may be the perfect fit for you. A major perk of travel nursing is getting to choose where to spend the seasons. Whether you are looking for a warm beach to spend the winter, or a place with awesome skiing, we’ve got a few recommendations that will make the search for your next destination a little easier.
San Diego, CA
San Diego is a warm weather utopia, with high temperatures consistently between 65 and 70 degrees throughout the winter. Add that along with the beautiful beaches and vibrant culture, and you can see why San Diego is among the most competitive cities for travel nursing positions. And there are no shortage of things to do during the winter season. Take a weekend to go watch the migration of grey whales off Point Loma in Baja, California. Run the scenic Carlsbad Marathon in January, San Diego’s oldest marathon, along the Pacific Coast Highway.
Los Angeles, CA
Warm weather (average highs above 67 degrees all winter) is the cherry on top of this city, which already boasts incredible food, great entertainment, and a wide variety of cultures, enclaves, and neighborhoods. LA also has 75 miles of coastline and is surrounded by the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains. Go star-gazing at the Griffith Observatory, or visit LA’s many museums during the slower months when they’re not so crowed. Los Angeles is great for anyone looking for tons to do and who enjoys being active and outdoors throughout the winter.
Besides the fantastic weather, Dallas offers some of the best pay rates for travel nurses of any city in Texas. Surrounding communities like Irving, Arlington, Fort Worth, and Plano offer a number of opportunities for nurses looking for great pay and a little southern excitement. If you’re looking for a few unique things to do while in Dallas during the winter, you can take in a dinner and show at the Houston Livestock Show, held in March, or stop by the Cotton Bowl Parade on New Years Eve.
Corpus Christi and Houston, TX
Travel nurses work hard and play hard, and there is no better place to relax than on a beautiful beach. Not only is Texas a state with some of the best rates for travel nurses, it also has gorgeous beaches. Corpus Christi is a culturally diverse area that boasts the beautiful and relaxed Port Aransas beach. Denver is a bustling metropolis that has lots of well-paying opportunities for travel nurses. And the culture is amazing all year round.
