Tips for Working a Travel Assignment with Friends

Whether you are ready to start planning your next travel assignment or are getting ready for your first assignment, this blog is for you! We understand that sometimes traveling can get lonely, but it doesn’t have to. Did you know that you can schedule travel assignments with travelers you’ve met before on assignment? Here are 5 tips to get you and your friend(s) ready to book your next assignment together!

Discuss Expectations with Fellow Travelers

Your recruiter will set clear expectations and explain what they will be able to deliver. It is important that everyone is on the same page and agrees on specific expectations. Be sure to discuss how open you are for varied start dates, working at different facilities or units, and having different shifts. It is important to understand that when traveling with other travelers it’s likely not 100% of everyone’s needs will be met. Determine specific needs and deal-breakers beforehand so that you can get ready for your next travel assignment without problems!

Communicate with Your Recruiter

It is extremely important to communicate regularly with your recruiter when planning an assignment with other travelers. Note that communication will significantly increase throughout the process, so be sure to communicate your needs as an individual as well as a group with your recruiter. It’s easy to have one individual of the group take control and make all the decisions. To avoid that be sure each person is communicating individually with your recruiter as well so that everyone is satisfied with the assignment. Remember that your recruiter is here for you, so be open and honest about what you are looking for!

Be Flexible

Flexibility is KEY when planning a travel assignment with fellow travelers. Take into consideration how flexible each of you are with location, hours, working at the same facility, whether you want to work the same shifts or work in the same unit. It can be difficult finding specific contracts for each traveler in the same facility, and the more flexible each person is the more opportunities there will be at the desired location.

Have Options

There are plenty of facilities all around the country that are short staffed and looking for healthcare travelers. Each traveler needs to discuss and agree upon potential assignment locations. There are endless options for adventure, so come prepared with a handful of places your travel group would all consider. Having multiple location options allows your recruiter to narrow down the search to the perfect location that provides the most opportunity to match everyone’s needs.

Be Patient

It is crucial to be patient throughout this process. While traveling with other travelers is extremely doable, the process may take longer. For example, getting through compliance in a timely manner can be challenging. Especially when two of the three travelers have been cleared before the last one is ready to go. Please be patient, your recruiter will be monitoring the progress and working tirelessly to make sure the process is as smooth as possible and is completed on time.
